Yesterday I watched "One Punk Under God"and was reminded not only how ridiculously cute Jay Bakker is, but also of one of the oldies-but-goodies from the OT:*
"But suppose this son has a son (daughter) who sees all the sins his father commits, and though he sees them, he does not do such things." Ezekial 18:14
To follow those wise words, here's one of my favorite secular verses, dedicated to... pretty much everyone... but especially to the Children of Evangelical & Fundamentalist Parents.
THIS BE THE VERSE
by Philip Larkin
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf,
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.
Here's to breaking the chain!
